An Increase In The Prevalence of Road Robbery During Peak Traffic Hours in Lagos

Reports from across Lagos State indicate an increase in the prevalence of road robbery during peak traffic periods. More recently, areas such as Mile 2, Ijora, Marina, CMS, Costain, Surulere, Ojota, Ogudu, Osborne and Oshodi have reported the highest cases of robbery incidences. From these reports, it is suggested that these incidences typically occur between 5.30am and 6.30am in the morning, and between 7.30pm and 10.00pm at night.

The following tips have been developed for the safety of staff while commuting within the State.

CCT To Arraign Orubebe For False Asset Declaration & Acceptance Of N70m Bribe

The Federal Government has filed charges against former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Peter Orubebe, over alleged false declaration of assets and acceptance of about N70 million bribe.

The four-count charge filed on behalf of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) by Peter Danladi of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) on October 8 this year is currently pending before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Banks To Deactivate Unregistered Accounts As BVN registration Deadline Expires Friday

Bank customers that are unable to obtain their bank verification numbers (BVNs) before the close of business this Friday would not be able to operate such accounts as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ruled out another extension of the deadline, which expires this Friday.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in collaboration with the Bankers’ Committee had introduced the BVN on February 14, 2014. The initiative was aimed at ensuring unique identity for all bank customers and other users of financial services in the country by the use of the customers’ biometrics as means of identification.

Police Nab Suspected Money Ritualist For Murder Of Hunchback

Abia State police command has arrested a suspected ritualist, Marshal Nwankwo, of Dikeukwu autonomous community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, for allegedly killing a hunchback, Mr. Ukata Iheme, for money making purposes.

The suspect, who was said to have committed the crime with another suspect, Emeka Okoye, now at large, allegedly killed and buried the victim.

Undergraduate Hacked To Death Two Months To Wedding

Tragedy struck at Olorunfunmi Street in Oworo area of Lagos, on Thursday, following the murder of a 32- year-old man, Lawal Afolabi Kunbi, allegedly by a debtor, in a bid to evade repayment.

EFCC Confronts Akpabio With Evidence Of Transactions

SAD: Man Poisons Pregnant Girlfriend In Imo State

The people of Ezeakam Eziudo community in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area, Imo State, still shudder at the recol­lection of the heinous act of their kinsman, 39-year-old Chamberlin Ojoko, who allegedly gave his pregnant girlfriend, Chinonye Ella, 25, a local abortion concoc­tion.

The concoction caused fatal adverse reaction that resulted in her death, on July 20, 2015. EFCC Detains Ex-Governor Akpabio Again Over Alleged Multi-Billion Naira Fraud

A former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has returned to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for more questioning after he was allowed to go home Friday night.

Mr. Akpabio, who is also the incumbent minority leader of the Senate, arrived the EFCC at 11.45 am Saturday, accompanied by his counsel and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Rikey Tarfa and some aides.

As soon as the former governor arrived at the commission, he was moved into the interrogation room, a source who pleaded not to be named because he is not authorised to speak on the issue, told PREMIUM TIMES.

Mr. Rickey Tarfa and aides to the former governor watched helplessly as the anti-graft operatives led Mr. Akpabio away.

Our source also hinted that the former governor might spend the day with the commission.
He is still been interrogated by crack detectives of the commission as at the time of filling this report.
Mr. Akpabio was arrested by the anti-graft agency on Friday afternoon and taken in for interrogation.

He was, however, allowed to go home late in the night but asked to report to the commission today (Saturday).

Shortly after he regained his freedom, Mr. Akpabio had given insight into why he was interrogated for several hours by EFCC operatives.

Speaking with a PREMIUM TIMES reporter shortly after he left the EFCC headquarters late on Friday night, Mr. Akpabio admitted that he was summoned by the anti-graft body to respond to several allegations of corruption against him.

He however said he was not arrested, but that he honoured the commission’s invitation voluntarily.

“A young lawyer from my state has been petitioning the EFCC accusing me of corruption,” the former governor said. “So shortly before I got involved in an accident in August, the EFCC summoned me to come and respond to the allegations.

“But following the accident, I wasn’t well enough to honour the EFCC summon. And I let them know.

Mad Man Kills 9 People, Sets House Ablaze In Enugu

There was pandemonium at Ngelefi, Ehamufu in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Tuesday, following the brutal murder of over nine persons by a middle-aged man suspected to be a lunatic.

Reports from the area said the alleged murderer, identified as Onyekachi Ugwu, killed his father, as well as seven others with a cutlass in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police Arrest Robbery Kingpin At Mile 2, Lagos

Operatives of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, Lagos State Police Command, weekend, arrested one Timothy Ojomandu, alleged to be a member of a three-man gang that hides under gridlock to attack and rob motorists around Mile 2 area in the state.

The suspect was caught in the act at about 7:30 pm by the team of policemen who responded to a distress call made by the driver of Mitsubishi Canter with number plate, FKJ 676 XF, after the suspect and his gang members had successfully stolen one carton of cell battery from the truck which was fully loaded with hundreds of the cartons.

UNBELIEVABLE: Man Cuts Own Manhood After Being Accused Of Rape

A man identified as Lekan Daramola, in Oke-Aro area of Ogun State, has decided to cut off his weapon of destruction, after he was accused of serial rape.

According to reports, the 34-year-old man was caught in the act of raping his landlord's 12-year-old daughter and after he was beaten, disgraced and paraded around the town, reportedly used a sharp kitchen knife and cut off his manhood.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has commenced investigation into a petition alleging corruption in the Cente-nary City Project initiated by the administration of former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

Police Arrest Six Waterway Robbers For Rape

It was gathered that six of the suspects were arrested following a report by a woman that the gang attacked and raped while she was travelling in a canoe at the Lamgbasa area of Lagos state on September 20.

Kidnappers Chain Female Victim In An Inhumanly Cruel Condition

Police in Rivers State have rescued a female victim of abduction who was chained down at kidnappers’ den in Port Harcourt.

David Mark's Victory Upheld By Benue Tribunal

The Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Makurdi  Benue State capital has struck out the petition filed by Comrade Daniel Onjeh of the APC against the Victory of Senator David Mark of the PDP in the Benue South Senatorial Election.

The Justice Mosumola Dipeolu led tribunal, in a unanimous judgment that lasted for two and a half hours, held that the petitioner failed to established any case against David Mark.

Justice Dipelou said Onjeh and APC failed woefully to prove allegations of rigging, multiple tumb printing, over stuffing of ballots, allocation of votes, intimidation, harassment and inducement of voters among others.

The tribunal also held that the petitioner failed to substantiate any of his claims which she said was fatal to Onjeh’s case.

The tribunal therefore discountenanced scanty evidence of PW 18 (Expert witness) called by Onjeh because the witness under cross examination accepted that there was error in his data analysis.

Senator Mark is currently the longest serving senator in Nigeria. He was elected in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015. He served as President of the Senate for an uninterrupted 8 years.

Prostitute Bites Off Man’s Ear During Fight Over Sex

A 36-year-old woman, Precious Osas has been arrested and charged before Isolo Magistrates’ court for biting off a 25-year-old man’s ear, Chikwado Omokwa, over sex in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The incident happened at a popular hotel in Okota where they lodged for a night’s romp.

According to the police, Precious, believed to be a commercial sex worker, allegedly collected N3,500 from Omokwa for an all night sex romp and failed to fulfill her own part of the bargain.

P.M.NEWS gathered that Precious struggled to cope with Omokwa throughout the period the sex lasted because of his high libido.

Trouble started after Precious allowed Omokwa a round of sex and told him she wasn’t ready for another round until he paid her more money.

This resulted in exchange of words and a fight ensued between the sex partners. During the fight, Precious allegedly grabbed Omokwa’s right ear and bit off part of it.

Nigerian Army Arrests Fake General Alleged To Be Boko Haram Sponsor

The Nigerian Army has arrested a suspected Boko Haram sponsor, Aliyu Hussaini, who was also said to be pretending to be military brigadier general.

Military authorities said in a statement on Tuesday that Hussaini was apprehended by soldiers of the 33rd Artillery Brigade in Bauchi State during the course of a raid.

“The 33 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army, has recorded another landmark success in the ongoing Operation Zaman Lafiyah as troops of the brigade recently arrested one Aliyu Hussaini, popularly known as Colonel, a suspected Boko Haram terrorist and an Impostor who has been parading himself as a Brigadier-General in the Nigerian Army.

“The troops, who were acting on a tip-off, said Aliyu Hussaini was a sponsor and also a member of the Boko Haram terrorist organisation.

They carried out a raid operation, which led to the successful arrest of Aliyu and another suspected Boko Haram member, one Ibrahim Mohammed, who is also known as Yuram.

“It was later gathered that Aliyu had been defrauding innocent citizens (with the claim) that he was a general in the Nigerian Army.”

The Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay, says the United Kingdom has every legal right to demand for the extradition of a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, to London.

The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri on Sunday said the early morning explosion in the out-skirt of Maiduguri emanated from routine testing of military equipment.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, Speaking to newsmen on Sunday, spokesman of the Division, Col Tukur Gusau, urged residents not to panic.

Boko Haram Bombed Abuja To Mock Recent Military Victories Against Them – NLC

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on Sunday, described the recent multiple bomb blasts in two different parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja by suspected terrorist group, Boko Haram, as attempts by the sect to make mockery of recent reported victories recorded by the Nigerian military over them.

NLC, in this regard, asked the Nigerian military to remain resolute in their fight against the group.
It also requested the government to renew it’s efforts to the fight against terrorism by undertaking comprehensive investigation of several acts of terrorism in the country with the aim of bringing to books people who are found guilty of aiding terrorists.

Two Die Fighting In A Brothel In Edo State

Two persons have been killed during a fight at a brothel located along Old road, off College road, Aduwawa in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State.

Residents in the areas have however fled to avoid arrest. Shops and houses in the locality were under lock and key when our reporter visited.

Blood stains were seen on the ground, while the brothel was locked up.The Nation gathered that trouble started when some youths in the area stormed the brothel to forcefully collect money from a man who was at the brothel to have fun.

Three of the youths were said to have been stabbed by the man whose identity could not be confirmed at the time of filing this report.

Two of them, according to witnesses, died instantly.

When contacted, the Edo State Police spokesman, DSP Stephen Onwochei, said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.

Police Uncover Body Of Paul Erie, AAU Abducted Lecturer

Contestant For Ooni Stool In Alleged N400m Fraud, Forgery

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has begun investigation into allegations of forgery, fraudulent conversion and obtaining the sum of N400m by false pretence against Mr. Adeyeye Ogunwusi and his firm, Metropole Interproject Limited.

Ogunwusi is one of the contestants for the vacant stool of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Osun State.

In a petition written by the chambers of Rotimi Jacobs & Co. dated September 7, 2015, Messrs Sijuwade Holdings Limited stated that in 1993, it purchased a parcel of land measuring 30,000 square metres from the Ojomu Chieftaincy Family at the Lekki peninsula, Lagos, and duly obtained the Governor’s Consent to the transaction.

Robbers Force Victims To Serve Them Food During Attack In Lagos

Robbers early Thursday morning invaded streets in Ejigbo community in Lagos State, western Nigeria. During the three-hour attack, they forced one of their victims to serve them food before they began their operation.

They reportedly sat in the sitting room and were served eba (food made from fried cassava paste) and soup which they ate before they started the operation.
