Sade: 5 Things To Know About Rarely-Photographed Singer Who Hung Out With Drake

Fans went crazy when Sade, who lives a very private life and is rarely photographed, popped up in a pic with Drake on his Instagram March 20.

The rapper referred to the singer as one of the most ‘important’ women in his life, and you can get to know her better right here.

1. She’s a legendary singer

Sade may be super reclusive these days, but for years, she was a successful and well-known musician. She began her career as a backup singer for the band Pride, then split from the band with guitarist Stuart Matthewman in 1983 to form her own band, Sade. They recorded their first album in just six weeks and released it to great success in July 1984. The group followed up with three more successful albums over the next eight years. The band then took an eight year hiatus before releasing a comeback album and going on tour throughout 2000 and 2001.

2. She became a very private person after the band’s comeback

After her band’s epic comeback in the early 2000, Sade dropped off the map and moved to the Caribbean with her daughter, Mickailia. She spent ten years out of the spotlight while raising her girl, but Sade eventually returned in 2010 with a new album and 2011 tour.

3. She’s been married

Sade married Carlos Pliego in 1989, but they split in 1995. She then started a relationship with Jamaican music producer, Bob Morgan, in the late 1990s, which is when she gave birth to Mickailia. Mickailia came out as a transgender man in 2016.

4. Before music, she wanted to have a career in fashion

Sade moved to London to study fashion design at Saint Marin’s School of Art after high school. She was there for three years and even had a brief career as a model before she started taking up singing as a career.

5. Drake has been a longtime fan

For years, Drake, 30, has publicly expressed his admiration for Sade, and she made sure to show him the love in return by sending him a gift (a framed, signed photograph) for his 30th birthday last October. Then, of course, she attended his London concert on March 20, and cozied up to him on Instagram in a rare public picture.

What were you most surprised to learn about Sade? Did you know she was friends with Drake?
